About

Welcome to our 1850 Adirondack Country Home

Gore Mountain Accommodations

WE ARE CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. Sitting majestically in Essex County is the 1850 Adirondack country home, that is The Alpine Homestead. It is tucked neatly between the mountains, brooks and pines in the small Irish community of Olmstedville, settled in 1810, in the town of Minerva. The Alpine Homestead is minutes from world class skiing at Gore and Whiteface Mountains. Accessibility to many, many trailheads for winter activities of snowshoeing, cross country skiing, hiking, or snowmobiling is very easy. With 3,000 lakes and streams in the Adirondack Park unlimited opportunities for water sports are available year round. Come and enjoy this ideal location.

Upon arriving at The Alpine Homestead, you will be warmly received by innkeepers, Barry & Peggy Mix. From the warmth of the wood burning stove in the great room to the tranquility of the formal sitting room/library; opportunities abound for an truly unique experience at the Homestead.

The home replicates a bygone era of simplicity yet is elegant in it's decor with antique furnishings and polished original woodwork throughout.

The area promises a good time, no matter what your interests are. There is hiking, canoeing, horseback riding, antiquing, cross country and downhill skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, rafting and of course, relaxing or napping on one of the enticing couches or chairs in the great room or on the wrap around porches.

After a fun day of exploring, return to peacefulness of The Alpine Homestead. Linger in the common areas, check out the news or the score of your favorite sports team or select a DVD for your enjoyment on the large-screen TV.

As you prepare for the evening, allow your hosts to suggest enticing places to eat. We are very happy to arrange reservations at the dining establishment of your choice.

Recent History of The Alpine Homestead

We read about the property being offered in our local paper while living in South Glens Falls. Barry was retired from education and was looking for a potential property to flip and sell. Peggy was still working for Washington County (NY) Hospice.

We started to work on the house together in 2006 and quickly fell in love with it. We would not be selling it, we knew this for sure! We held Thanksgiving here, while in the very rough stages of the renovation work, for our three grown children, and they failed to see our vision! They thought we couldn't possibly rehab this old house. They and their spouses all love it now! We officially opened our doors in September, 2007. View more photos of The Alpine Homestead.

Barry grew up in Western New York and Peggy grew up in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. We are the parents of three grown children and grandparents to six exceptional grandchildren who live in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Louisiana. We will be happy to tell you all about them!
